Thialf and Zuidasdok nominated for WAF Award 2018

27.06.2018

Both the revamped Thialf in Heerenveen as well as Zuidasdok in Amsterdam have been nominated for a World Architecture Festival (WAF) Award 2018. The revamped Thialf has been nominated in the category 'Sport - Completed Buildings' and Zuidasdok in the category 'Infrastructure - Future Project'. Winners will be announced during the World Architecture Festival that takes place in November at the RAI in Amsterdam.

In the renewed Thialf, everything is about the ice experience and the ice skaters. Based on this vision, ZJA designed an ice arena with a logical ordering of functions and an iconic appearance inside, as well as outside. In the renewed ice arena, top athletes have access to the fastest ice and the best 400-metre lowland track. Innovation and sustainability play an important role in the renewed Thialf.

Zuidasdok includes the widening and partial underground installation of the A10 South motorway in Amsterdam and the expansion and modernization of the Amsterdam Zuid station. ZuidPlus Architects is involved in this project, delivering the architectural and landscape design of the Zuidasdok. ZuidPlus Architects consists of ZJA Zwarts & Jansma Architects, Team V Architecture and Bosch Slabbers Garden and Landscape Architects.
