50 years Witkar – Pakhuis de Zwijger

31.03.2017

On April 3rd, Pakhuis de Zwijger will organize an evening commemorating 50 years Witkar: From the Amsterdam white bicycle plan and witkar initiative, to a global economy in mobility sharing. The sharing economy is on the rise again, 50 years after the birth of the White Bicycle and the Witkar. Innovator Luud Schimmelpennink has now adapted the design and the engineering to meet the digital age.

Besides Luud Schimmelpennink, the evening program includes national and international guests from the worlds of science and planning, technology and mobility. In addition, a glance into the near future will be given during a pitch with amongst others Rein Jansma. The crucial question will be: How far do we need to look into the future to make sure shared mobility will be common practice and not just an alternative?

Last year, a mock-up elevator cabin for the underground storage of the Witkar, designed by ZJA, was exhibited during FabCity. An elevator cabin made of corten steel, with transparent doors and taking up little space in the public domain.
