First pile for sustainable new parking garage at Schiphol

On the sun-drenched first Monday of March, the first pile for Schiphol’s new P3 Leeghwater parking garage was officially driven into the ground. With this new parking facility, Schiphol will soon be offering travelers not only more than 4,000 additional covered parking spaces, but—thanks to the nearby free shuttle bus—also more convenience and a smooth start to their journey. In the architectural design by ZJA Architects & Engineers, sustainability plays an important role alongside the passenger experience.

Optimal passenger experience in a sustainable building

The new parking garage has been kept as compact as possible with six parking levels, will feature a timber façade, and an energy-positive roof with over 9,000 solar panels. Low-CO₂ concrete is being used, and reused materials wherever possible. Construction is also being carried out as sustainably as possible by BAM Bouw en Techniek. The parking garage is scheduled to open around mid-2027.

Building the airport of the future

Schiphol aims to return to the top three European hub airports by delivering quality for travelers, employees, and airlines, while staying in balance with its surroundings and society.

With more parking options for travelers and improved accessibility, the new parking garage is part of a broader investment program to enhance the airport.
