Climate House and Eurostar UK Terminal win Architecture Masterprize 2025

No fewer than two of our projects have won an Architecture MasterPrize this year! The Climate House in the Hortus Botanicus Amsterdam, which opened in September, won the Architecture MasterPrize 2025 in the Green Architecture category. In addition, the Eurostar UK Terminal at Amsterdam Central Station, which opened earlier this year and was architecturally designed by ZJA Architects & Engineers (architect for the UK Terminal) in collaboration with Superimpose Architecture (interior architect for the passenger areas) won in the Transportation category.

International recognition

The Architecture MasterPrize (AMP) is a prestigious international award. Each year, a jury of experts presents this prize to outstanding projects in the fields of architecture, interior design, landscape architecture, architectural product design and photography. The aim of the AMP is to promote global appreciation of high-quality design and to celebrate talent, with a strong focus on innovation and sustainability.

A visible icon of sustainability

ZJA Architects & Engineers originally designed this iconic landmark in the centre of Amsterdam in 1993 and was also responsible for the new design. The interior design and layout were created by BOOM Landscape and design studios Designwolf, while ABT was once again responsible for the structural engineering. The new Climate House in the Hortus has become a visibly sustainable icon, while the familiar silhouette of the old greenhouse has been carefully preserved.

The guiding principles of the original design—lightness and slenderness to ensure optimal daylight for the plants—have been retained. Even greater emphasis has been placed on the characteristic primary load-bearing structure, which is so defining for the Hortus. As a result, the distinctive rhythm and refinement of the existing façade with its white detailing return in the new design. The single glazing in the façade has been replaced with insulating double glazing, and the roof has been fitted with lightweight, insulating triple-layer ETFE air cushions—an ultimate example of lightweight construction. Gloednieuwe terminal in monumentaal gebouw
