Witkar elevator cabin on FabCity

21.04.2016

Inner-city transport is not easy and as cities grow, this is an increasing challenge. For this reason, people are looking for alternative ways of transport, such as a collective use of electric vehicles and the good old bike.

ZJA designed an elevator cabin for the storage of the Witkar. The Witkar is a form of individual and electric public transport that can accommodate up to two people. The traveller chooses the station where he gets on, and then drives to the station with the elevator cabin where he parks and leaves the Witkar. The elevator brings the Witkar to the underground storage. The elevator cabin takes up little space in the public domain and is made of corten steel and transparent doors. Currently, a mock-up of the elevator cabin can be visited during ‘FabCity’ at the head of the Java Island in Amsterdam.

During the 'Fabcity' innovation campus, 400 students, entrepreneurs, researchers, artists and designers live and work at the innovation campus for eleven weeks and research sustainable solutions for ‘the city of the future’
