What a gift, these warm September days. At architectural studio ZJA in IJburg we also take a moment to enjoy. Reminiscent of all the holiday adventures, and looking forward to the trips ahead. Without fixed office closures our international team has complete freedom for family visits abroad. And also as a team we like to discover more about other cultures.
International office excursions, home-made dinners with dishes from all points of the compass, a range of celebrations and every other week a shared breakfast with internal news. At ZJA we do more than design, research and invent. Because you’ll make the most beautiful things if you share things and enjoy your profession together.
I’d been working at ZJA for just a few months when I was invited to go on an excursion to Berlin lasting several days. As well as the kind of architecture, and the fascinating search for a combination of technology, aesthetics and ecology that I see all around me every day, this is precisely why I so enjoy working here. Surrounded by creativity and inspiration in a warm, open and relaxed atmosphere.

Last spring, ZJA traveled to the SILT event building in Middelkerke, Belgium, which is under construction and in June almost the entire staff took the train to Berlin. Among the places we visited were the Holocaust Memorial, the Philharmonic by Hans Sharoun and the Boros Collection. Impressive! Of course there was also time for relaxation. Our usual team of runners, which had earlier taken part in the Zandvoort Circuit Run, flew across the asphalt of the former Berlin Tempelof Airport.
In the office, too, we make time for new discoveries and relaxation. ZJA works on the third floor of a spacious and light office block on IJburg, overlooking the water and equipped with a shared terrace on the ground floor. There we celebrated the summer, with a jointly prepared BBQ and homemade world dishes. Discovering new flavors and being together, that also gives us plenty of inspiration for our work.
Sunday 7 May is 'Open Wervendag' in Belgium. Among the places open to the public for the day will be the construction dock for the Scheldt…
